Don Rasmus of Freeport's 83-inch wingspan PT-19 radio controlled plane makes its final approach for landing. The Baker's Memorial Fun Fly is hosted by the Freeport RC Modelers and takes place at Baker's Field just north of Freeport.
SPONSORED CLUB EVENTS
TUESDAYS
Every Tuesday is club-flying night. If weather is good, there is usually a cook out after flying. Members and guests bring their own food, beverage, and table service. The club has two charcoal grills and one gas grill for cooking.
THURSDAYS
Thursday nights have been designated as “Novice Night.” Beginning flyers are top priority. Out of common courtesy, experienced flyers are expected to let the beginner have the sky until they feel comfortable flying with other planes in the air. The Beginning Pilot Instructors, or any experienced member of the club who is willing to help beginning pilots, may do so upon request. The beginner may also fly with help at other times.
MAY
In May we have a Static Display and fun fly at Baker’s Field. This is a one-day event. Saturday evening we have a bring a dish to pass and cookout gathering.
JUNE
In June we have the “Sneek-In” Fun Fly at Sneek’s Airfield. This is for any size airplane, glider, or helicopter. It is a two-day event. We have a cookout on Friday evening and catered food and refreshments all day Saturday and Sunday.
SEPTEMBER
In September, we have Baker’s Memorial Fun Fly at the club field. We fly Saturday, and have a share-a-dish picnic Saturday evening.
DECEMBER
The first Sunday in December, we hold our Annual Swap Meet at the Cedarville Community Center. People bring planes, engines, equipment, accessories, etc. that they wish to swap or sell. People from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin attend.
DURING THE WINTER
The club sponsors indoor electric flying at a local church. Contact any officer for information.
